Horror is a genre I've always been drawn to. There is something about the darkness of it that I find morbidly fascinating.

In October of 2021 I entered a writing contest through goscribbler.com. The Contest was a challenge to write a piece of microfiction (500 words or less) inspired by one of three spooky images. I didn't win, but I was a semi-finalist and got some great feedback on my work. When I saw the call for submissions for The Last Girls Club, I decided to expand on my microfiction story and submit it. I was elated to be accepted for publication!

The Last Girls Club issue No. 6 Summer Solstice 2022 is themed: Sex Work is REAL Work. A message I proudly support and stand behind. I highly recommend checking out this magazine, not just because I have a story featured in it, but because it promotes important issues and has a lot of great art inside.

Or you can order a print copy for $10: https://www.blurb.com/b/11200769-summer-solstice-2022

Last Girls Club is an indie feminist horror magazine, newsletter, and podcast. All are artist run publications and creations whose goal is to promote the female gaze in horror, its creators, and to preserve the cultural dynamic of our age, while celebrating the dark incarnation of the feminine. Dismantling the patriarchy of the binary is just a welcome side effect.

If you check it out, let me know what you think!

Until next time,

Popshot Quarterly - The Joy Issue - Summer 2022

Today, Popshot Quarterly Magazine's Summer 2022 issue - The Joy Issue - is here! My short story, "Dancing in the Dust Motes," was chosen for publication and I could not be more honored to be featured alongside all the wonderfully talented artists in this magazine.

The story I wrote is autobiographical, and very personal, which is atypical of my usual writing. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of "joy" is my daughter. I've said to my husband more than once, I have never felt such joy as I have since she was born. I'm currently pregnant with my second child (due at the end of July!), and my story touches on many of the emotions I have regarding having a second child and a son.

Popshot Quarterly describes Issue #36 as: "The Joy Issue is a collection of vivid writing, exploring brief bursts of intense happiness. It goes deep, with tales of burgeoning desire, childhood giggles, exploding champagne bottles and laughter. Featuring an exclusive short story by guest author Shelby Van Pelt. Cover illustration by Gracie Dahl."

Shelby Van Pelt has a novel that was just published a couple days ago, "Remarkably Bright Creatures," which was featured in a newsletter I subscribe to: Amy Haimerl's Bar\Heart - "10 Books I Can't Wait to Read in May." Seeing that my short story is in the same publication as her is very exciting!

I hope you'll order a copy (print or digital) of Popshot Quarterly Magazine. If you do, please let me know! I hope you enjoy it.

Until next time,

Miranda
